Hollywood does not have a great record with long marriages. Careers get bigger, attention gets louder, and private life often turns into another part of the business. But Mark Harmon and Pam Dawber have been married since 1987, staying together for nearly forty years is basically a miracle.
They didn’t meet at some flashy red carpet event. A friend set them up in ’86. Both of them were already famous—Mark was the big star on NCIS later on, and Pam was huge from Mork & Mindy. In a 2019 interview, Mark once joked that he had to “kiss a lot of frogs” before he finally found her.
The line was funny, but it also explained something important about the way their relationship works. In fact, Harmon once admitted they do not even “generally like the same thing.” Speaking to People in 2019, he said their differences had actually been healthy for them.

Once they met, they didn’t waste time. They got married a year later in a small ceremony. No cameras, no selling the photos to magazines, nothing. They just wanted to be married.
Then Pam did something almost no celebrity does — she quit acting when their sons, Sean and Ty, were born. She didn’t want a nanny raising her kids while she spent 14 hours a day on a film set. She wanted to do the school runs and sit down for family dinners herself.
Mark kept working, obviously. NCIS gave them a steady life for a long time, but they had a strict rule: keep work at work. They didn’t bring the Hollywood BS home with them. Even when their son Sean played a young version of his dad’s character on the show, they didn’t turn it into a big media circus.
They rarely walked red carpets together, or see them out in public. When they do show up—like at a concert or something — they just look like two people who genuinely like each other. They’re grandparents now. Their son Sean recently had a baby boy, and they kept that quiet, too. No big “exclusive” interviews, no Instagram posts.

Mark still wears an eagle-head ring whenever he’s not filming. He says it’s because he’s proud to be her husband. Not a style thing or a brand deal. He just likes being married to her.
In an industry where people use their private lives to get clicks, these two just kept their business to themselves. That’s probably the only reason they’re still together.

The both of you are amazing. I am so happy to hear of a marriage that is so beautiful. I always watched Pam on morky and Mindy and I continue to watch NCIS everyday . The show is not the same without Mark. You should celebrate many many more happy years together.
