Amber Marshall’s Rustic Ranch Wedding Could’ve Been a Heartland Episode

When your wedding begins on horseback, you know you’re in for a story worth retelling.

Amber Marshall and her longtime partner, Shawn Turner, didn’t have to look far for the perfect wedding venue. Their shared love of horses—and the Alberta landscape they call home—made the choice obvious. On a clear summer afternoon near High River, the Heartland actress and her fellow equestrian exchanged vows in front of family, friends, and a few familiar faces from set.

“I’m a homebody and so is Shawn,” Amber told Hello! “We thought, ‘Why not get married where we live—where we work and play?’”

A Wedding True to the Land

The day unfolded across open pastures and weathered fences, with the same horses fans have watched on Heartland grazing just beyond the aisle. Every detail carried a personal touch—no planner, no fuss.

  • Handmade altar: Shawn spent weeks building the wooden arch that framed their vows.
  • Family décor: Burlap runners, mason-jar lanterns, and wildflowers tied with twine.
  • Homemade favors: Small jars of local honey, a sweet nod to Alberta’s roots.

“Having our families pitch in made it feel like one big celebration,” Amber said. “I loved every minute of it.”

The Ride Down the Aisle

When the moment came, Amber didn’t walk—she rode. Mounted on her horse, Hawk, she appeared in a strapless gown by Private Label by G, carrying a lilac bouquet arranged by her grandmother. Her father took the reins, steadying Hawk as she made her entrance to meet Shawn, waiting in a charcoal suit and cowboy boots.

“I expected to be nervous,” she said. “But riding in felt more like the thrill of filming a new episode—exciting and joyful.”

Their ceremony ended as it began—on horseback. The newlyweds trotted off to applause, laughter, and a couple of spirited steps from the horses that drew even bigger smiles.

Laughter, Music, and a Prairie Sky

Under white tents, the Heartland catering team served classic Alberta fare at long farm tables that mixed cast, crew, and kin. The night unfolded with speeches, songs, and a few teary smiles.

  • Michelle Morgan’s toast: Amber’s on-screen sister shared early memories from set.
  • Chris Potter’s words: Her TV father raised a glass to the real-life one finding her partner.
  • First dance: “Timing Is Everything” by Garrett Hedlund, beneath strings of prairie lights.

Guests came as they were—jeans, boots, and all—and the dancing ran until the stars took over the sky.

Building a Life Together

Honeymoon plans could wait. With Heartland rolling into another season and the ranch to tend, Amber and Shawn stepped into married life the way they do most things—steady, grounded, and surrounded by horses.

“There’s nothing I’d rather jump into—literally and figuratively—than this adventure with Shawn,” Amber said.

I never fought about visiting Canada, until I saw how beautiful it is on heartland. So that is on my bucket list… Someday I would absolutely love to visit the Alberta area of Canada.
