A Day in the Life of Amber Marshall on the Set of Heartland

Before She’s Amy Fleming, She’s Just Amber on the Farm

I always forget how wild Amber Marshall’s real life actually is until I watch stuff like this.

We all know her as Amy Fleming on Heartland, but the truth is… she doesn’t clock out of farm life when the cameras stop rolling. She is that life. Muddy boots, animals yelling for breakfast, then straight into filming one of the longest-running shows on TV. Somehow it all fits together.

Her mornings don’t start with alarms or snooze buttons. They start when the animals decide it’s time. Coffee in one hand, feed in the other, straight out into the Alberta air. Chickens first. The kind that crowd the door like they’ve been personally wronged by breakfast being thirty seconds late. She talks about their eggs like people talk about wine—deep brown ones, soft green ones—and you can tell it’s a small joy she genuinely loves.

Then there’s the pond crew. Ducks everywhere. One swimming like it’s an Olympic event, another patrolling the edges like a security guard, a turkey just casually acting like she owns the place. Cleaning the pond turns into chaos immediately because the ducks jump back in before the job’s even done. That part made me laugh because… yeah. Animals.

Out past the fence are the bigger personalities. A Jersey cow who absolutely expects conversation. A bull who keeps everyone in line. A Highland calf who got taken in without question. That part stuck with me. Animals just accepting each other without the drama people usually bring. Even the alpaca plays a role, quietly humming alerts when something’s off. Farm security, apparently.

The barns feel like her calm place. Hay stacked from their own fields, winter already planned for. Milking paused for now because calves come first and filming schedules don’t care. The routine bends, but it doesn’t disappear. That felt very on brand for her.

Then the switch flips.

Amber Marshall doesn’t leave farm life at the gate when filming Heartland — she lives it every single day.
Amber Marshall is literally Amy Fleming in real life and I am obsessed

Farm clothes off. Set wardrobe on. Lines in hand. Hair and makeup. Back into Amy’s world. She talks about filming dinner scenes taking hours—master shots, singles, close-ups—pretending the food’s still hot long after it stopped being food at all. It’s funny how something that feels so natural on screen is actually that technical behind the scenes.

What really hit me is how easy it seems for her to slide into Amy. Probably because there isn’t much sliding required. Horses, responsibility, long days, quiet resilience… that’s just her real life with cameras added.

When filming wraps, she goes right back home. Horses waiting. Minis needing to burn off energy. One calm ride to reset her head. That part made total sense to me. Some people unwind with TV. Some people need a horse and a little space.

Later, she’s inside with the next day’s script, making notes, circling moments. And she admits something that kind of sums it all up—sometimes she doesn’t know where she ends and Amy begins. And she’s fine with that.

Honestly? That explains everything.

Amber Marshall isn’t acting a lifestyle. She’s just living it, and the show happens to catch it on camera. That’s why Amy never feels fake. That’s why Heartland still feels grounded after all these years.

If you’ve ever wondered why this show feels different, this is probably it.

And yeah… if you’re a Heartland fan, you’re gonna want to watch those videos.

I definitely love the behind the scenes stuff again like I said she reminds me of me if I had the opportunity she had I would jump to it but I didn't get that type of an opportunity but the opportunities I did get I'm happy I had a chance even though I didn't get a chance to finish it.
