The Life of Amber Marshall: More Than Just ‘Heartland’

From her early days in Heartland to her ranch-style wedding

Amber Marshall and her husband Shawn

After nearly two decades as the face of Heartland, it’s easy to feel like you know Amber Marshall. But while Amy Fleming’s life is an open book for fans, the real-life story of the woman behind the character is something she’s always kept a little more grounded.

The Ranch Wedding
Amber Marshall and Shawn Turner skipped the big celebrity wedding. In 2013, they got married on a ranch near High River, Alberta — the same place where Heartland is filmed.

For Marshall, it wasn’t just a venue — it was her home. She rode in on horseback to meet Turner at the altar, a moment that felt more like a scene from her show than a fancy wedding. As she told Hello! Magazine, “I couldn’t have imagined marrying anywhere else… my cherished ranch was the obvious venue.” Most Hollywood actors would never go that far with the whole country living thing.

The Question of Kids
It’s a topic that always comes up in fan forums: Do Amber and Shawn have children? The answer is no. They’ve been married for over a decade, and while fans often speculate, the two have kept that part of their life private. In an industry where everyone overshares, they’ve managed to keep that chapter of their lives out of the public eye—and that’s completely their right.

A Career Built on Versatility
Before she was Amy Fleming, Marshall was already hard at work. Born in London, Ontario, she started acting when she was just 8 years old.. By 15, she was landing heavy roles like the lead in The Elizabeth Smart Story. She wasn’t just a child star; she was a serious actor who built a resume with titles like The Christmas Shoes and Love in Harmony Valley long before Heartland made her famous.

Life Outside the Script
If you want to know what Marshall is like when the cameras stop, just look at her property near Calgary. It’s not a hobby farm—it’s a working ranch packed with horses, dogs, cats, chickens, and even alpacas.

She doesn’t just play a rancher for the paycheck — she actually lives that life. Between acting and running her own ranch, she’s built a net worth of around $2 million. She’s built a career that keeps her close to the animals she loves. For Amber Marshall, Heartland was never just a role. It was always where she was headed.

I have enjoyed watching Heartland since 2022 and hope to see more of it. Looking forward to watching season 20 on up faith and family. Can’t wait, but I guess I will have to. I want to write a short book intitaledThe Road to Heartland. It’s about a Heartland fan who goes to Aberta and goes to all of Amber Marshall’s meet and greets and shows in Toronto and Chilliwack and Kentucky and where ever she has a show!
