Tom Selleck Admits He’s Never Sent a Text Message in His Life

The Blue Bloods star admits he relies on his wife for all things digital—and honestly, it sounds like a luxury.

Tom Selleck has been famous for 50 years. He is the face of Blue Bloods, the legend behind Magnum P.I., and the owner of Hollywood’s most famous mustache. But apparently, he is also a time traveler from the pre-digital era.

In a recent interview with People, the 79-year-old dropped a detail while promoting his new memoir that actually made my jaw drop: He has never sent an email or a text message.

Not once.

It turns out, he has a designated texter: his wife, Jillie.

"I have a certain luxury where I probably couldn’t survive otherwise," he joked. And honestly? That sounds amazing. Imagine never having to worry about a group chat or a spam email again because someone else handles it for you. That is the ultimate power move.

Nature over Netflix

This disconnect from technology makes sense when you look at how Selleck lives his life off-screen. He isn't glued to Twitter; he’s on his 63-acre ranch in California. He’s spoken before about how much he loves just working the land and watching his wildflowers bloom.

He mentions in the book that his career was an "accidental journey." He claims he was never "bitten by the acting bug," he just wanted to work hard. It’s a refreshing take. He treats acting like a trade—a job you show up for—rather than a desperate need for fame.

He even offered some advice for new actors: "You better get an appetite for it."

Some people might think that contradicts his "no acting bug" comment, but I get what he means. You don't need to be obsessed with fame, but you do need the hunger to do the work.

But when that work is done? Don’t expect a text back from him. He’s probably out in the avocado orchard, enjoying the quiet.
