Fans won’t have to wait very long to see Kayce Dutton back in action.
Marshals, the Yellowstone spinoff starring Luke Grimes, will return for Season 2 on Sunday, October 4, 2026, on CBS. The announcement gives the series a surprisingly quick turnaround after its first season wrapped in May.
There is one small catch for anyone planning to watch the premiere live.
Season 2 starts at a different time
The October 4 premiere is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. ET on CBS, rather than the show’s usual 8 p.m. slot. The temporary change is connected to CBS’s NFL doubleheader that Sunday.
It won’t be permanent.
Beginning October 11, Marshals is scheduled to settle back into its regular Sunday night at 8 p.m. ET time period.
That gives fans two dates worth remembering:
October 4 — Season 2 premiere at 8:30 p.m. ET
October 11 onward — Sundays at 8 p.m. ET
Kayce Dutton’s new life continues
Marshals picks up Kayce Dutton’s story after Yellowstone, with Luke Grimes reprising the role he played throughout the original series.
Instead of remaining at the Yellowstone Ranch, Kayce has joined an elite U.S. Marshals unit in Montana. The job draws on both sides of the character fans already know — his life as a cowboy and his experience as a Navy SEAL.
CBS describes Kayce and his fellow marshals as balancing dangerous work with the psychological toll it places on them and their families.
For Kayce, that family still includes his son Tate, played by Brecken Merrill, as well as his longtime connections to Thomas Rainwater and Mo.
Season 2 is already filming
The new episodes aren’t merely on the schedule. They’re already being made.
Paramount Television Studios announced in June that production on Season 2 had begun in Park City, Utah, with Grimes back in the lead role.
The quick renewal wasn’t particularly surprising considering how strongly the series performed. Paramount said Marshals averaged 20.4 million multiplatform viewers across its first eight episodes, describing it as the No. 1 new broadcast series.
That success meant CBS didn’t leave viewers wondering about Kayce’s future for very long.
Season 1 left Kayce with unfinished business
And there’s plenty for the show to resolve.
The Season 1 finale didn’t neatly close Kayce’s first chapter as a marshal. Instead, it left several characters in danger and positioned the story to continue directly into Season 2.
Most importantly, Tate was unknowingly placed in a dangerous situation involving rancher Tom Weaver, while Kayce had yet to understand the full threat surrounding his son.
That makes the short gap between seasons particularly welcome.
Rather than waiting a year or longer to see what happens next, viewers will return to Kayce’s story roughly four months after the Season 1 finale.
How to watch Marshals Season 2
Season 2 will air on CBS and will also be available through Paramount+.
Paramount says Premium subscribers can stream episodes live as they air on CBS. Episodes are also available on demand the following day for Paramount+ subscribers, including Essential subscribers.
So the important date is now official:
Kayce Dutton returns Sunday, October 4, 2026.
And considering where Season 1 left him — and especially Tate — Season 2 already has something the first season didn’t have when it premiered: unfinished business.
