If you grew up in the ’80s, you know Tom Selleck was one of TV biggest heartthrobs. Turns out, his Blue Bloods co-star Bridget Moynahan understood the appeal long before she ever played his daughter on TV.
During an interview while promoting her book Our Shoes, Our Selves, Moynahan was asked whether she had watched Magnum P.I. growing up.
Her answer was pretty direct.
“I did watch Magnum. He was a stud. He still is—that’s the thing.”
As for Selleck’s famous mustache, Moynahan joked that there was one subject she preferred to leave alone.
“I don’t talk about his mustache. I put my foot down about that.”
It’s not just acting; they’ve actually become a family.
After almost ten years playing his daughter Erin on Blue Bloods, Moynahan says the chemistry you see at those Reagan family dinners is real.
Even early in the series, she described Selleck as someone who naturally slipped into the father figure role. She later said he was punctual, professional, willing to work through scenes with the cast — and also the guy at the dinner table telling silly jokes.
She puts Selleck in that rare category of classic actors, like Sam Elliott, who just seem to get better with age. He’s kept a relatively low profile for years, living on his California ranch with his wife, Jillie Mack.
By the time Blue Bloods wrapped, that connection had lasted well over a decade. Moynahan later described her final day on set with Selleck and the rest of the cast as deeply emotional.
At the time of that earlier interview, Moynahan was promoting Our Shoes, Our Selves, a collection built around 40 women and the meaningful stories attached to particular pairs of shoes.
Her own story centered on a pair of black motorcycle boots she bought during one of the hardest periods of her life.
After her breakup with Tom Brady and the intense media attention surrounding her pregnancy and the birth of their son, Moynahan said photographers followed her and even waited outside her home. One day, while trying to avoid them at Barneys, she saw the boots and felt they represented something she needed — a little armor and some of her confidence back.
Years later, she could look back at that pair of boots as much more than something she wore.
They marked a point when she was trying to get her footing again.
As she put it, “I may not remember the outfits, but I remember the shoes.”
