Mark Harmon once said he had to “kiss a lot of frogs” before finding her.

Most Hollywood marriages flame out before the wedding photos are even developed. This isn't one of those stories.

Mark Harmon and Pam Dawber married in 1987. Nearly forty years later, they’re still together, still low-key, and still doing things their own way. In Hollywood, that's rarer than an Oscar.

How They Met

We know Mark as Gibbs from NCIS—controlled and all business. Pam is iconic from Mork & Mindy. But their biggest achievement wasn't on a soundstage; it was choosing a life that stayed mostly out of sight.

They didn’t meet at a flashy premiere. A mutual friend introduced them in 1986. Both were in their 30s, both were famous, and both were done with the Hollywood dating scene.

Mark once joked that he had to “kiss a lot of frogs” before finding Pam. Once he did, that was it. No drama. They married a year later, quietly, without helicopters or magazine exclusives. Pam had seen how the industry can seep into a marriage and decided early on she wanted none of it.

Then they made a choice you rarely see anymore.

When their sons, Sean and Ty, were born, Pam stepped away from acting. Not because she had to, but because she wanted to. She didn’t want someone else raising her kids while she worked 14-hour days. She wanted to be there for school runs and family dinners.

Mark kept working. NCIS provided stability for years, but they had a rule: work stays at work. Home was home.

Years later, their son Sean appeared on NCIS playing a young Gibbs. It was a full-circle moment that actually fit the family's vibe.

They’ve never chased attention. When they do pop up in public—like that Rolling Stones concert years back—it’s a surprise. They look like what they are: a long-married couple who actually enjoy each other.

Now they’re grandparents. Sean recently welcomed a baby boy, and the family grew quietly. No press tour, no big announcement. Just life continuing.

There’s one small detail that stands out.

When he’s not filming, Mark often wears an eagle-head ring. He’s said he wears it simply because he’s proud to be married. No brand tie-in, no symbolism for the cameras. Just a guy who likes being a husband.

In an industry where relationships are usually treated as content, that kind of privacy is almost rebellious. It’s also why they’ve lasted.
