Heartland is officially coming back for Season 20.

The show’s official Instagram page broke the news to fans, confirming that production is already underway in Alberta, Canada.

“The wait is over,” the announcement read. “Heartland’s 20th season follows the Bartlett-Fleming family as they celebrate the joys and face the pitfalls of life on a ranch, defying the odds and coming together like never before.”

The team also took a moment to thank fans for two decades of support. “Twenty seasons. That’s twenty years of a family that has felt like our own,” the post continued. “Thank you for never letting go of Heartland. Your love for this show is the reason we keep riding.”

The new season premieres on CBC and CBC Gem in Canada this fall.

Nobody who follows the show was surprised. Star Amber Marshall, who’s played Amy Fleming since day one, had already hinted at a twentieth season — and said she hopes the show runs for at least ten more years.

For Amber, the line between her real life and her TV life has mostly disappeared. She lives on her own Alberta farmhouse with dozens of animals.

“I’m kind of like Dr. Dolittle,” she joked in an interview with Cowgirl Magazine. “Animals keep me humble. They don’t care who you are or what you look like. They’re just like, ‘all right, let’s go do this.'”

She thinks that honest portrayal of ranch life — and the bond between humans and horses — is what’s kept the show going so long.

“There’s something about the Western lifestyle. That connection between humans and horses, that people just feel,” she explained. “Even if you’ve never been near a horse, there’s a respect there. I think that’s what keeps people watching. You can feel their power even through a screen.”

Marshall is also glad the show gives families wholesome content they can watch together.

“I want to show people that you can be content just being who you are,” she said. “Laugh at yourself. Do crazy things. Live for you, not anyone else. Do it because it feels right and makes you happy.”

Filming is already underway in Alberta. Fans won’t have to wait much longer to see what’s next for the Bartlett-Fleming family.
