Christian Bale Builds Village to Keep Foster Siblings Together

Christian Bale may be known for playing heroes on screen, but he’s working to become one in real life, too. For nearly two decades, he has been quietly championing an ambitious dream: building a safe, stable place in California where foster children can grow up with their brothers and sisters instead of being separated by the system.

A Village Built for Family

The plan, called Together California, focuses on a 4.7‑acre site designed specifically for sibling groups. It will include 12 family-style homes to keep brothers and sisters under the same roof, along with two transitional apartments for youth aging out of care. At the heart of the village will be a 7,000‑square-foot community center offering therapy, tutoring, and spaces for family visits.

Bale says the idea struck him hard when he first learned how often siblings in foster care are split up.“I couldn’t accept that reality,” he shared in an interview. “These kids have already been through so much. Taking away their siblings is like taking away their last sense of home.”

A Costly, But Life-Changing Project

Originally expected to cost around $22 million, the project’s budget has since grown to $25–30 million. Despite the rising costs, Bale remains committed. With support from child welfare experts and passionate advocates, Together California is expected to welcome its first residents in late 2025 or early 2026.

For Bale, this isn’t just a charity effort; it’s the role of a lifetime—one he hopes will inspire other communities to create similar safe havens for siblings in foster care.
